With effect from February 23, Air Jamaica will begin 8 weekly non-stop Lovebird flights between New York’s JFK International Airport and Grenada. This was announced by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation which conducted the negotiations with officials of Air Jamaica. A government release said that Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Senator Brenda Hood has already expressed sincere appreciation to Air Jamaica for its quick response to Grenada’s need for dedicated non-stop flights to and from New York. The senior government minister also pointed out that Air Jamaica’s economic role in the region would become even more significant when the Caribbean Single Market and Economy (CSME) is implemented. She stated that reliable airlift is especially needed at this time with the increasing number of business travellers to and from Grenada. President and CEO of Air Jamaica, Mike Conway said, “The route has been performing exceptionally and an increase in service is good for Air Jamaica and Grenada, adding that, “we are most pleased to be adding this service that coincides with Grenada’s tourism recovery”. “As the airline moves to improve productivity through better utilization of its existing fleet, all feasible opportunities for expansion throughout the Caribbean are being looked at carefully”, he said. Air Jamaica flights will be operating Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays departing New York’s JFK at 10:30 a.m. arriving in Grenada at 4:10 p.m. The return leg
will depart Grenada at 5:00 p.m. and arrive in New York at 8:50 p.m.
