Police have finally caught up with 46 year-old Dean Augustine of Belle Vue Lands in St David’s who was wanted for the vicious attack last week Wednesday on 19-year old student, Stacy-Ann Charles of the same area.

Augustine is due to make his first court appearance on Friday Friday at the St. David’s Magistrate Court in connection with the chopping of the teenager. The suspect has been charged for the offence of causing harm. He will also have to answer to the Magistrate on previous charges filed against him for which a bench warrant was issued for failure to attend court proceedings.

The badly injured T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) student is still hospitalised but in a stable condition at the St. George’s General Hospital.

The chopping incident resulted in her loosing the lower part of her left arm from the blow delivered from a cutlass allegedly used by Augustine in the attack. Stacy-Ann also sustained chop wounds to other parts of her body including her neck and right shoulder.

The attacker fled the scene after committing the crime and police mounted a manhunt for him that lasted for several days. He was reportedly apprehended by law enforcement officers on New Year’s day after his own family members allegedly tipped off the police about his location.

Stacy-Ann’s father, prison officer, Finbar Charles said that he is very relieved that his daughter’s slasher was caught. Although still going through emotional distress over what happened to his daughter, Charles said that he also feels better since she is now able to move about on her own in the hospital.

He said he is hoping that the law will now takes its course and that the suspect will be found guilty and given the full force of the law. Charles has indicated that he plans to meet with Acting Commissioner of Police, Winston James to complaint about the handling of the matter which led to his daughter’s injury by officers attached to the St. David’s Police Station.
