Grenadian Rosemarie Charles has been appointed as Chairperson
for the Training Committee of the newly formed Caribbean Spa &
Wellness Association (CSWA) at a board meeting held in Dominica.
"I feel
very honoured and quite confident that I will be able to make
a contribution to the industry's development", Charles told
GRENADA TODAY. As the person in charge of the training committee,
the Grenadian will be responsible for co-ordinating the activities
of the body and helping to organise training seminars and programmes
throughout the Caribbean.
In addition,
the committee will be responsible for setting examinations for
people already in the industry and wanting to improve their knowledge
and skills in the spa industry. "We also intend to target
people who want to enter the industry by setting a standard of
training for them throughout the Caribbean", said Charles,
a qualified Clinical Aesthetician.
Charles who
was trained in Italy, UK and the Caribbean, has worked alongside
a number of international spa consultants on several major spa
related projects throughout the region.
"The
Association welcomes her expertise and commitment to the development
of the industry and is optimistic that through the training committee
much will be achieved in terms of the human resource enrichment
within the sector", said a release from the newly formed
group.
According
to the release, the new body is hopeful of creating its own niche
in the market. It said: "Due to the fact that the spa and
wellness sector of the Caribbean relies more heavily upon Tourism
than any other region in the world, it is instrumental that we
join together as a region to establish our spa identity on the
international wellness market.
"By
so doing we can effectively compete with areas such as the Pacific,
Asia and the Middle East and therefore, raise the standard of
our wellness offering to the world class level and beyond",
it added.
CSWA is a
professional organisation comprising of Destination Spas, Hotel
Spas, Day Spas, Medical Spas & Wellness facilities as well
as suppliers to the industry.
The organisation
intends to serve its members through education, public relations
and communication, legislative advocacy, membership development
and ethics enforcement.
