The acting General Manager at the Point Salines International Airport (PSIA), Ronald Charles has been sacked. This was confirmed to GRENADA TODAY newspaper by Chairman of the Board of Directors, Terence Forrester, a key member of the ruling New National Party (NNP) government. Forrester told this newspaper that he did not take the decision to fire Charles from the post but rather it was done by the governing board. He did not give any reason for the dismissal of the Acting Manager. However,
Charles was known to have been at loggerheads with Forrester on several
issues at the airport. A few weeks ago, the PSIA Chairman expressed concerns
with the inability of Charles to carry out a number of functions at PSIA. According to Forrester, he had to take on his own to engage a painting company to give the airport a facelift. The PSIA Chairman pointed out then that if Charles could not do the job then he had no problem in executing the tasks that are necessary all by himself. Like Forrester, the sacked Acting Manager is also a member of the NNP. Prior to taking up the job at PSIA, Charles was employed with the island’s New York Mission to the United Nations. |
