Police
have detained two female employees of the Grenada Ports Authority
(GPA) for questioning in connection with the alleged theft of
$20, 000.00 from the state-controlled body.
Informed sources told GRENADA TODAY that the employees are being
questioned at the head office of the Criminal Investigation Department
(CID) on Hillsborough Street in the heart of the city. According
to a well-placed source, the police were called in after the money
was reported missing within hours of being paid to GPA by a customer
in cash.
He said that a female employee of the authority was taken into
custody within minutes of the incident and that a second suspect
was later brought in for questioning as the police try to crack
the case. The $20, 000.00 in cash was paid into GPA's main office
on the Carenage.
The source said that the police have been reviewing footages of
the security camera at GPA to look for possible clues in the theft
of the money. Over the years, a number of employees lost their
jobs at the authority for theft of its funds.
