Members of the Drug Squad Unit of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) have confiscated a number of illegal drugs within the last two weeks.

According to a report from the Public Relations Section of the force, a senior member of the Squad while traveling along Lagoon Road, St George's on Sunday observed suspicious activities in the vicinity.

It said that as a result, an investigation by the unit led to the seizure of 5 kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of EC$500,000. This confiscation led to the arrest of 32 year old Arnold Jack of Belmont, St George.

On the same morning, an operation mounted by the Drug Squad at Harford Village in St Andrew's, resulted in the arrest of Ebony Phillip, a 26 year old trafficker and Lindon Richardson, 29 who was described as a shopkeeper. The drug squad seized a small quantity of cannabis and EC$10,000 from the suspects.

Meanwhile, two British nationals, Oran Alphonse 26 years and Georgia Amodu 16 years, were detained on July 27 by members of the Drug Squad at the Point Saline International Airport (PSIA) as they were about to board an Excel flight to London.

According to the RGPF release, investigations prompted the lawmen to believe that both Alphonse and Amodu had ingested quantities of cocaine. The detained persons were hospitalized and a total of 24 Cocaine pellets weighing approximately 283 grams were retrieved.

Alphonse and Amodu were arrested and charged and later remanded to Richmond Prison without bail after appearing before Chief Magistrate, Patricia Mark. RGPF also reported that officers of the Drug Squad are investigating the seizure of a quantity of cannabis in the St Patrick's area.

During a routine patrol two men were spotted carrying a bucket and bags from the Jetty area onto Main Street in Sauteurs. When they were approached by members of the Drug Squad, the member reportedly dropped the items and ran away.

A check of the items by the police revealed a quantity of compressed cannabis that weighed a total of 30 pounds.
