A government-promoted National
Youth Rally was held last Saturday at the Tanteen Netball Court
to bring an end to activities marking Youth Month 2006.
The event, organised by the Ministry
of Youth Development was sponsored by Cable & Wireless.
In addressing the young people
gathered at the rally, Cable & Wireless¹ Marketing Communications
Manager, Sheldon Keens Douglas urged them to tap into the exuberance
of their youth, to look for ways to direct their creative energies
towards positive projects, set goals and work faithfully towards
achieving them.
Keens Douglas noted that many
young people are employed with Cable & Wireless Grenada Ltd.
and in some cases hold senior positions.
This, he said should encourage
those with ambitions of joining a large firm to persevere and not
feel that they have nothing to contribute simply because they are
young. Keens Douglas also made mention of some of the youth projects
which the company is involved in.
One is the Cable & Wireless
scholarship programme and the other is partnering with government
to assist participants in the Imani programme.
Eight Imani Participants are
currently on staff at Cable & Wireless. A text to win competition
was held at the rally for those present.
The winner was Florence Richardson
whose prize was an Apple Ipod compliments Cable and Wireless.
