A delegation from the Caribbean,
led by Prime Minister of Grenada and Chairman of the Caribbean
Community¹s Sub-committee on
Cricket, DR. Keith Mitchell, has moved to allay fears in India
over lack of accommodation for next year¹s Cricket World Cup.
³Let me assure you that accommodation won¹t be a problem,² Indian
media reports quoted Mitchell as saying at a ceremony in New Delhi
to unveil the CWC 2007 logo, mascot and 2007 tournament schedule.
³We will accommodate each and all. We arranged for cruise
ships and introduced home stay programs², he said.
Dr. Mitchell¹s comments come just weeks after Managing Director & CEO
of ICC CWC 2007, Chris Dehring, admitted some fans trekking to
the World Cup next year could be roomless.
However, Dehring who was also on the trip to India instead focused
on the viability of the India market saying it is extremely important
to World Cup 2007.
He urged ³... as many Indian fans as possible to travel
to the Caribbean for the best Cricket World Cup ever.² Dehring
also reminded fans to take advantage of the last few days for ticket
applications, which closed on July 31.
Representatives for the ICC CWC 2007 attending the launch event
also included singer David Rudder, Chris De Caires, Chairman of
the Barbados Local Organising Committee and Malcolm Speed, Chief
Executive Officer, ICC.
Cricket World Cup 2007 will run
from the March 11, 2007 to April 28. The first match of the tournament
will take place on March 13 at the newly renovated Sabina Park
in Kingston, Jamaica between the West Indies and Pakistan in Group
D.
Fifty-one matches will take place
over 47 days in eight countries. Almost all of the countries are
building new stadiums for the event.
