Dr David
Lambert, the Doctor alleged of improper conduct against a female
teenager has announced that he is stepping down from his position
as an Executive member of the National Democratic Congress for
the duration of an inquiry into the allegations levelled against
him.
According
to a statement issued by the Doctor says that he met with the
party’s political leader Tillman Thomas last week Wednesday
at his request to discuss the allegations.
The statement
added “after discussions I informed Mr Thomas that I will
be stepping down from my position as an executive member of
the NDC for the duration of the inquiry into the allegations..I
have taken this decision so as to allow the inquiry to proceed
unimpeded.”
Dr Lambert says Mr Thomas has accepted the decision and he has
retained legal counsel in the matter.
During
the Sitting of the 3rd Session of the 7th Parliament at the
Grenada Trade Centre last week Friday, Minister of Education
and Labour, Hon Claris Charles lashed out at the Opposition
Leader, calling on himself, the Non-governmental Organisations
and the Churches to thoroughly investigate the allegations against
the NDC member and make the findings public.
She said
that she had personally spoken to the 17 year old young lady
involved in the issue and is satisfied that the allegation is
serious enough to warrant an investigation. She said that she
don’t see why an allegation of this magnitude should be
treated as a political issue.
Mrs Charles
disagrees that the allegations against the Doctor is a political
set-up adding the people on the Lance in Gouyave knows that
the mother of the child is a known NDC supporter. She said that
she has since learned that the Opposition Leader has visited
the home of the young lady subsequently and apologised to the
mother for the behaviour of the alleged perpetrator.
The minister
said “we need to speak out about all wrongs, even if I
am the lone voice in the wilderness I will continue to speak
about the wrong”, she said.
