Another member of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) has been charged with a criminal offense. The latest is Terry Hillaire who is a member of the Special Services Unit (SSU) of the police force.

Police spokesman Troy Garvey confirmed to GRENADA TODAY that Hillaire has been officially charged and suspended from the force by Commissioner of Police, Winston James.

The SSU officer has been charged with two counts of stealing a firearm from the SSU camp at Point Salines, and for being in illegal possession of arms and ammunition. Police insiders have said that the para-military officer who is from the Birch Grove became the prime suspect.

A well-placed source said that the missing gun was recovered by police officers in a house in the St. Mark’s area. Police have also been called in to investigate the theft of a computer system last Friday at the Grenada Postal Corporation (GPC) main office at Burns Point, St. George’s.

According to a police source, the lawmen were in to investigate the incident following a complaint from the lady who was expecting to collect the computer system from the post office.

“The lady went to the post office to look at the computer. He actually saw it in the box but when she came back to collect it, she found that something was wrong”, he said. “The box was neatly packaged but when she opened it, the computer was not inside it.... It gone”, he added.

The police are working on the theory that it was an inside job within the postal corporation.
