The
three Trinidadian taken into custody for alleged fraud in connection
with some ATM machines belonging to local banks are expected to
make their second Court appearance Thursday before Chief Magistrate
Patricia Mark.
Forty-nine-year old Kelvin Snagg, 44-year old Derek Maloney, and
23-year old Kristol Pereira have been charged with 11 counts of
stealing. The Trinis made their first court appearance last week
Wednesday but were remanded to the Richmond Hill prison.
The police and the local banks have been praised by members of the
public over the speed with which they moved to nab the culprits
following investigations into a number of withdrawals from the Automated
Teller Machines.
Reports are that the lawmen recovered thousands of dollars that
the suspects allegedly managed to withdraw from some machines, including
$18,000.00 from an account belonging to a German couple.
The trio arrived in the country on April 07 and within two days
of their stay had allegedly tampered with ATM machines in both St
George and Grand Anse.
It
is believed that the suspects used what is known as the Lebanese
Loop, an illegal device inserted into the card reader that captures
the card, which the fraudster later retrieves, after offering to
assist the affected customer and getting him/her to reveal their
PIN.
The three accused T&T Nationals are being represented by Attorney-at-law
Peter David and Derek Sylvester.
