I
remember being told years ago when I was very young that when one
is stupid or dumb, he/she should never open his/her mouth for fear
that he/she removes all doubt.
I was also told never argue with a fool because a passerby will
never know the difference between you and the fool! First of all
let me wish my valued readers belated Easter Greetings! I trust
that your Easter weekend was as enjoyable as mine was. I trust also
that you found time to focus on the reason for the Easter season.
It is unfortunate that so many young people think it is a time to
fly kite while others old enough think of it only as another long
weekend to drink and get on! Easter is a religious holiday - probably
the most important religious holiday observed by Christians the
world over.
Easter speaks to the resurrection of Christ the Spirit giving us
the power to develop and believe in the spiritual realm of our lives.
Pardon me for my absence in last issue of this much sought after
newspaper - Grenada Today!
The message is clear that this newspaper is not affiliated to any
political party and therefore exhibits an unmatched independence
reflecting the news as they develop in our community regardless
of which political corner is affected.
We have seen this in the strong stand taken to influence some measure
of action on the part of the elected opposition towards a serious
investigation into impropriety by a senior elected member among
its ranks.
We have also been privy to its well founded opinion on the status
of both the Grenada United Labour Party (GULP) and the People's
Labour Movement (PLM) in context of their current place in our politics
in light of their dismal performance during our last general elections.
What we can most certainly attest to is its well placed tenacity
to expose the wrong doings of the current New National Party administration
of Little Black who is perceived to have been presiding over state-sponsored
decadence over the last eleven years in Grenada.
Because of the non-aligned nature of this medium, it can never be
accused of manufacturing any news because of disgruntlement over
politics - whether of the GULP, PLM or NNP. George Worme has never
opted to get involved in front line politics and failed miserably
resorting to the publication of any newspaper as a vehicle to prominence
in Grenada.
George Worme has never been a money hungry individual who beat up
his mother and sisters in their own home over their own property
- whether in the US or home here in Grenada. The corrupt leadership
of our country over the past eleven years provide enough exciting
evidence to be showcased in the weekly pages of the Grenada Today
to prevent unwarranted character assassinations and lies.
What this paper does is report on the issues of self assassination
which are committed by individuals - either in politics or close
to the "dregs" we allow to offer themselves to public
life and more so during the last eleven years.
Talking about unwarranted character assignations and lies - have
you seen or heard the statement made by the Leader of the Opposition
- Hon. Tillman Thomas regarding the latest attack on one of its
Executive Members?
For your benefit, let me cut and paste the following for you:
"I
wish to make it clear that the reported claim in the Spice Island
Review newspaper that the mother of the alleged young victim had
spoken to me is absolutely and completely false. Up to the time
of writing this release I have had no contact with the young lady
or her mother.
The newspaper report further goes on to state that I had told the
mother of having had several complaints of unprofessional behavior
regarding the Doctor concerned.
Again, this is absolutely false. One cannot help but wonder about
the motivation behind this baseless allegation."
After
hearing or reading this categorical denial are you not loathed to
wonder at the credibility of the rest of the contents of that article?
Regardless of how many of us may have our own doubts about the accused
individual in question, are you not tempted to wonder at the motive
of this newspaper? Enough said on this non-issue!
I am so happy at the technological advancement of my country since
the coming on stream of the Cable & Wireless dominated merger
with our local bankrupt Telephone Company back in 1989 to form the
dream company of GRENTEL come Cable & Wireless.
Many Grenadians the world over were able to witness for themselves
the poor conduct of the NNP legal henchman in his response to the
verdict of his case against the Judicial and Legal Services Commission
during his infamous press conference.
If anyone had any doubts as to his affinity to misconduct as a member
of the noble legal profession - this character opened his mouth
and removed them. The Press conference can only be described as
a total disgrace! Every time he seems to be involved in a case and
the results go against him, he seems to enjoy coming out against
the sitting judge in public.
Do you recall when he made a serious stir against Justice Brian
Alleyne - arguably the most able judge to ever preside in our jurisdiction
since Independence! What we need to know is who was the person described
as “expensive but useful” by Lawrence Jones of the failed
First Bank which was trying to get the NNP to keep out the FBI from
coming into the country to investigate the many acts of fraud being
committed by the bank.
Do you think that the man from the Wild Wild West should ever hold
public office in Grenada like the Director of Public Prosecution
or even Attorney General for that matter! We must take into consideration
the serious intransigencies committed against unsuspecting depositors
to this financial scam trading as an off shore bank, funds from
which benefitted NNP’s 1999 election campaign while enriching
certain other local as well as foreign individuals.
I rather enjoyed Dr. Alexis' response to the nonsense that was said
in that press conference and open attack on Justice Davidson Baptiste.
I have said it before and I will say again without fear of being
considered repetitive: I have the greatest time and respect for
Dr. Francis Alexis.
To begin with he is our best debater! His arguments are usually
very sound and his response clear. Nothing he says is ever shrouded
in fuzziness with big words and what have you. His words reflect
him as an uncomplicated man. I loved it when he described the appeal
papers filed as something he would have failed in his days as a
senior law professor at UWI should a student have presented that
to him.
I want to reiterate my position on Dr. Alexis and the important
role ordained for him to play in Grenada in these crucial times
of extreme crisis. The cosmic forces recognized the need for him
to be unencumbered and so removed him from the active representation
of people in the constituency he held for three consecutive terms
so that he can play a most important and envied role of Constitutional
expert.
Could you imagine how difficult it may have been for him to play
this role and be actively involved in being pulled and tugged here
and there by constituents? This must make him the envy of the legal
profession - to be blessed with such unique capabilities as dictated
by his Ph.D, training at Cambridge University in Constitutional
Law.
I am glad to see that Dr. Alexis can prove to the entire Grenadian
population that he is not only about politics but more so about
democracy and defending it from high-jackers.
Notwithstanding his differing political persuasion to that of Hon.
Peter David, notwithstanding his difference in background to that
of Mr. Ruggles Ferguson, President of the Bar, Dr. Alexis takes
the lead in offering scholarly advice and legal representation in
order to protect the integrity of (1). Our Constitution, and (2).
Justice!
When Grenada returns to normalcy where the constitution becomes
sacrosanct once more Dr. Alexis should never be forgotten for the
highest of honours that can be considered for such selflessness.
I can see him playing a great role in the aftermath of this eleven
year debacle. He too must hear in advance the jail door slamming
loudly and deafeningly for the new occupants - Little Black and
his brigands! |
