The Keith Mitchell government is really on a propaganda drive. It is using everything at its disposal including the results of another mythical and farcical poll to try and boost its badly wounded public image following Hurricane Ivan and the bribery allegations against Prime Minister Mitchell. It is well known that if you pay for something then you expected to get exactly what you paid for. In the build up to the November 2003 general election, the ruling New National Party (NNP) of Dr. Mitchell released the results of a poll which claimed that it would capture fourteen of the fifteen parliamentary seats. The people eventually spoke and the NNP just managed to scrape home with a questionable 8-7 victory in which the Organisation of American States (OAS) gave strong hints about voter padding. Less than a month ago, the Minister of Natoinal Security, Senator Einstein Louison was caught lying and misleading the public to the effect that the U.S State Department was pursuing an Opposition Parliamentarian on multiple real estate fraud of a criminal nature. And the discredited NNP is trying to sell a questionable poll that was allegedly conducted by Guyanese Vishnu Bisram who heads the New York-based North American-Caribbean Teachers Association (NACTA). Its Chief spokesman Barry Collymore has been promoting Bisram as a pollster with impeccable repute and one who has been very accurate in predicting elections in several Caribbean islands. GRENADA TODAY would like the public to be the judge of this so-called pollster based on two release. The first is dated Tuesday, August 30, 2005, St. George's and was released by the Office of the Prime Minister of Grenada who is clearly enjoying his final days and moments in office and strongly suspected of being the pay masters for the poll. "The Government of Grenada welcomes the results of the North American-Caribbean Teachers Association poll which show that the people of Grenada have confidence in the Government and the Prime Minister to run the country. The Government believes that this will only serve to boost international and regional confidence in the N.N.P. Government administration and help to bring even more benefits to people of the country. The Government feels that a positive image is vitally important in its overall effort of securing funding and other forms of assistance to rebuild the country. The Government believes that the vote of confidence by the people as expressed in the poll is as a result of Government's hard work and commitment to building back Grenada better. Government also believes that the many consultations it has been having with various groups across Grenada has helped to inform officials about what the people of the country want and how best to deliver those needs. Government officials however, were not entirely surprised as they have been getting similar messages as they moved around the country meeting with different groups. This positive message has also come from many foreign Governments and international agencies like the International Monetary Fund who have given Grenada high praise for its reconstruction efforts. However, in spite of the positive results Government still believes that there is an enormous amount of work to be done to rebuild the country. Government will continue to work and continue to highlight the positive work being done by Grenadians right across the country in rebuilding this country". The second release is dated April 21, 2005 and came from the Associated Press of the united States concerning a poll that the said Bisram did in Antigua. The so-called pollster predicted that Opposition Leader Eddison James will win the election. This turned out to be so far from the truth when the people of Dominica went to the polls to cat their ballots. The AP report said: ROSEAU, Dominica - The opposition United Workers Party of Dominica is expected to win the upcoming May 5 general election, according to a second opinion poll just released by the North American Caribbean Teachers Association (NACTA). In an earlier poll, conducted in late February, NACTA had also forecast defeat of the incumbent Dominica Labour Party of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit by the UWP of ex-Prime Minister Edison James, with a 12-7 majority. However a later poll conducted last month by the Barbados-based Caribbean Development Research Services (CADRES), arrived at a directly opposite forecast by giving the governing DLP 12 seats and the UWP seven for the 21-member elected House. Following nominations on April 18, both Skerrit and James were speaking with much confidence about victory for their respective party. But in a statement Tuesday, NACTA's director, Vishnu Bisram, said the latest findings of his tracking poll, conducted last week, revealed that the UWP "continues to maintain its lead over the DLP" and is expected to win. Both NACTA and CADRES have also indicated that the results could be close with a likely vote swing". It is clear that Bisram's poll cannot be trusted. This Guyanese pollster is strongly suspected of being a paid hired hand of the NNP to help the party put on some new clothing in an effort to face the Grenadian public. His so-called poll is similar to the questionable award given to Prime Minister Mitchell for leadership by the relatively unknown Randolph King and his King Humanitarian Global Foundation International Inc. This is the only Grenadian leader who has taken an act to Parliament to use taxpayers money to give to his family to get involved in the Call Centre fiasco and then turn around and exonerate his family from their multi-million dollar financial obligations by getting the State to buy out their shareholding interests.
