The T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) is better equipped for the start of the new school year after taking receipt of $10,000 worth of text books from an organisation in the United States. The island's lone government-owned tertiary institution displayed the 75 boxes of books to reporters at its library on Tuesday. Business Manager at TAMCC, Vernie Chatteram told reporters that the books were donated by the Los Angeles Trade Technical College (LATTC) to be used by the School of Applied Arts and Technology. Chatteram said that the books are greatly appreciated since most the books of the college that are usually used for reference purposes by students were damaged in Hurricane Ivan. She praised the President of the Grenada Chamber of Industry and Commence (GCIC), Nigel John for the role he played in helping TAMCC to get the books. According to Dean of the School of Applied Arts and Technology at the college, Desmond La Touche, the donated books will fill a vacuum that exists in the technical department of the institution. He said the books will go a long way in helping the technical students of the college. La Touche pointed out that the technical department has received more than $150,000 worth of tools, equipment and other equipment from the Disaster Research Network. "We are indeed highly appreciative, as most of the tools and equipment were damaged post hurricane Ivan," he said. |
