Grenadians have been reminded of the benefits to be derived in returning to the good old days of sharing and neighbourly love.

This was emphasised by Reverend Elizabeth Felix of the Methodist Church as she delivered a homily at an Ecumenical Service at St. Paul’s on Thanksgiving Day Tuesday to mark the 22ndanniversary of the U./S-led military operation in Grenada to restore order following the bloody end to its 1979-83 Grenada Revolution led by late Prime Minister Maurice Bishop.

In commemoration of the occasion, Rev. Felix spoke of the need for the Nation to adhere to Godly practices, firstly in the homes, schools and in the work place. Speaking on the theme for the Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service, “Love, Hope and Gratitude”, the female minister lamented that there has been a breakdown in the good order of society, which has neglected its responsibility to teach the youth.

According to the Methodist Preacher, this is solely responsible for the level of divisiveness pervading the Nation, which many times result in a state of anger. Rev. Felix called on those in charge of the running of major institutions in the country to start focusing on programmes of sharing love, good manners, reconciliation and spirituality, that in turn will be emulated by the Nation’s children.

She urged parents to take up their rightful place in the home and germinate the Godliness that is demanded by the society at this time, so that ultimately the country would know what it is to forgive and move on.

In his address, Prime Minister, Dr. Keith Mitchell, reiterated that the theme for the Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service was indeed significant and for love to be spread throughout the length and breadth of Grenada since the country has gone through too many perilous times. He reminisced on the turbulent times over the past year with Grenada facing two hurricanes of devastating proportions in the space of ten months as an experience that is quite difficult to endure.

Prime Minister Mitchell said that the effects were as far-reaching as the perils at the end of the revolutionary period twenty-two years ago, when the country loss several of its sons and daughters. Battling the ravages of hurricanes Ivan and Emily, Dr. Mitchell applauded the resilience of the people in getting by thus far and promised that his Government will always be hard at work to ensure the country is being built back better and that it can stand up to the test of time.

His sentiments of Grenadians possessing inner strength and will power in the face of adversity were echoed by US Ambassador to Grenada, Mary Kramer.

She said that Grenadians, being a resilient people with the experience of a rather remarkable history, can certainly face the challenges of the future with a high degree of tenacity.
