In keeping with its commitment to support the Ministry of Health and the National HIV/AIDS Directorate in addressing the HIV/AIDS issues in Grenada, and the Eastern Caribbean, Peace Corps will hold a training session for all its Volunteers and their Community Partners from November 7-10 at SunsetView, Grand Mal.

Participants will be looking at the Behavior Change Process and Steps in the Behavior Change and Communication Strategy. As a result of this training, participants will be able to develop a Behavior Change and Communication strategy for their communities and their community groups and will also be able to hold a training of trainers (TOT) session in their communities.

Peace Corps Volunteers live in villages and communities all over the island and will work with community partners to address these issues. Volunteers and the Agencies where they work will be able to develop and implement a strategy focusing on abstinence, abstinence &/or being faithful and other behaviour change.

The Behaviour Change Workshop is part of the Peace Corps E.C. HIV/AIDS Initiative which was developed within the framework of the National Strategic Plan for Grenada and The PEPFAR proposal. The second objective focuses on increasing the organisational capacity of HIV-related networks and community organisations.

There are currently 19 Volunteers in Grenada, five of whom are HIV/AIDS and Health Education Workers. They live and work in all parishes on the island including Carriacou.

All Volunteers are requested however to assist in the HIV/AIDS programs on the island and receive support training to fulfill this objective. Other agencies receiving Volunteer assistance are NADMA, GNOW, GNCD, HOPEPALS, NEWLO, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education/Special Education, Schools for Special Education, TA Marryshow Community College Carriacou, Visual Impairment Resource Center, Community Development St. David's and Forde, St. Andrew's, and the Carriacou Communities of L'estere and Harvey Vale.

Some 45 participants are expected to attend the workshop.
