"Your personal communicator that will keep you attached to your office, home or rest of the world when you need to be".

That's how Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cable & Wireless Richard Blanchard described the launch of the 7280 BlackBerry. The product is a hand held mobile device that provides quick, easy access to the internet, e-mail, contacts, calendar and task list virtually wherever the user goes.

The launch was done in conjunction with the US company Research in Motion and took place last Thursday at the Grand Beach Resort in the south of the island. Speaking at the ceremony, Blanchard called the product the latest communication experience available within the Caribbean and the wider global community.

"For those who are not aware, it (the launch) may be considered a red letter day for us at Cable & Wireless", he said. Blanchard disclosed that the product marks the convergence of all the services one needs in order to maintain control of their business environment, as well as to be part of the decision making process even though they are on the road or away from the workplace for an extended period.

"We are excited about this product because it shows that Cable & Wireless is "in local terms putting its money where its mouth is" in offering the latest technological developments, new business trends and innovative communications solutions", he remarked.

Blanchard stated that the company has become more conscious of the need to provide customers with greater flexibility as they conduct business from what has become a mobile office. The C&W CEO pointed out that his company looked at the changing business environment and had planned to introduce the product so as to ensure their customers are not at a disadvantage or left behind in the introduction and growth of new and relevant technology to Grenada.

The company's Major Accounts Manager, Jennifer Leid who spoke at the launch told the gathering that Cable & Wireless has been testing the product for the past two months. She was confident that customers will get value for their money since the product provides the kind of connectivity demanded in today's fast paced global village.

Cable and Wireless officials say the BlackBerry allows customers to access voice and data while on the go. In addition to e-mail and voice capabilities, the java-based BlackBerry 7280 device combines text messaging, organiser, web and corporate data applications.

For corporate customers, BlackBerry Enterprise Server software tightly integrates with several of the software platforms one needs to enable secure, wireless access to e-mail and other corporate data.

In the case of individuals and smaller businesses, BlackBerry Internet Service allows users to access up to ten corporate and /or personal e-mail accounts.
The BlackBerry hand held is sold at EC$2,100 with its monthly charge being EC$120.00.
