The New National Party (NNP) General Council has labeled the actions of the man opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) as "outdated communisn".

The ruling party sad that the "rantings and ravings" of the Congress party are only designed to create unrest, instead of taking up the challenges that have emerged in the wake of hurricane Ivan. The NNP issued the statement following ts General Councl meeting last Sunday on the compounds of the Westerhall Secondary School.

The party supporters voiced their disgust with the Opposition for failing to utilize their initiative in the rebuilding process. Education Minister, Claris Charles, a one-time NNP General Secretary, noted that the NDC rally against Education which was held in St. John's on February 20 is that political organisation's way of showing its ingratitude to the friendly countries that have come to Grenada's assistance to attend to the damage hurricane Ivan unleashed on the country's schools, estimated in the range of over one hundred million US dollars.

She indicated that reconstruction of schools continues at the top of her Ministry's agenda for the year 2005-2006 and the NDC's "destabilisation plans" will not change that course. These activities were described by her as "left wing communism and infantile disorder".

The Education Minister felt that the time and financial resources NDC were spending to stage its utterings could have been put to good use, had the party's agenda been one of reconstruction and development. Prime Minister and NNP Political Leader, Dr. Keith Mitchell, spoke of the NDC's actions being filled with distraught, anger and negative and destructive propaganda.

He indicated to party supporters that while hurricane Ivan has changed the landscape of the country, it has not impacted on the Congress party, which continues on its original course of "creating mischief".

Dr. Mitchell reflected on the conduct of several NDC members who had sought to travel around the region sending a distorted signal about our Grenadian people in the aftermath of the hurricane, which could have had a debilitating effect on the country's ability to attract funding.

NDC leaders Tillman Thomas and Nazim Burke had visited Trinidad and Tobago to respond to clams made n Port-of-Spain by the Prime Minister about information he had received about an attempted coup plot in the Spice Isle. The Grenadian leader accused the Congress of wanting power at any cost.

"What is happening around the country today is not a situation we know nothing about. It is nothing special. It is the base of the NDC - power at all cost", he said. The Prime Minister told party supporters not to be distracted but show maturity in facing the challenges that have come in the wake of hurricane Ivan, since the NNP's main goal is to rebuild the country, taking into account the need for a productive, prosperous and educated society.

"We are laying the foundation for the success of Grenada in the future", said Prime Minister Mitchell. He spoke in glowing terms of the NNP Government's direction, based on prioritizing housing construction, diversification of the agriculture sector with agro-processing and agri-business as major components, establishment of small and medium sized businesses for young entrepreneurs, scholarships and skills training for more young people, reinvigorating the community spirit, enhancing the country's physical layout with cruise tourism at the helm, complimented with the trust to enhance the Nation's Sporting and entertainment fraternities.

The NNP Political leader warned supporters, however, that they should not let their guards down and fall victim to the actions of opposition forces, since it could derail plans at attaining development objectives.

He urged them to lend a helping hand to all, regardless of political and other persuasions and work selflessly to ensure that peace and stability prevail, which according to him, will always remain as "the main ingredients for the development of this dear land of ours".
