Hon. Nazim Burke MPThe parliamentary opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) says that a full scale criminal investigation should be carried out into the conduct of controversial Jamaican Lawyer Hugh Wildman.

The call came 24-hours after the Judicial and Legal Services Commission (JLCS) rejected government's nomination for Wildman to be installed as the island's next Attorney-General.

The decision of government to submit his name for the post angered the Grenada Bar Association (GBA) resulting in the body staging a one month protest by boycotting all Courts on the island. NDC's Public Relations Officer and Parliamentary Representative for St. George's North-east, Nazim Burke told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday that a full scale criminal investigation should be held into the conduct of Wildman during the time he was Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in 1999.

He said that information in the possession of the Congress party suggests there was "a smack of bribery" involving the controversial Lawyer who might have also prevented the U.S Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from coming into Grenada to carry out an investigation in the collapsed First International Bank of Grenada (FIBG).

Burke made mention of a letter sent to Wildman by Assistant United States Attorney Claire M. Fay in 1999 in which she requested permission for the FBI to carry out a search warrant for records pertaining to FIBG. The Bank, whose Chief Executive Officer (CEO) was Van Brink aka Allan Ziegler collapsed a few years ago in what was the biggest offshore financial scam in the Caribbean.

Burke also spoke of a divorce proceedings in a British high court involving a former FIBG Executive in which certain statements were made by a Judge in a London Court about Wildman. The letter which was sent to Brink alleged that a certain lawyer has the air of the Prime Minister and that although he is very expensive is an asset to the success of their business in Grenada.

According to Burke, the NDC is not in a position to say whether or not the allegations made are true or false. The opposition M.P pointed out that the only way to determine whether or not those allegations are true is if Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell conducts an inquiry into those allegations.

Meanwhile, Parliamentary Representative for the Town of St. George Peter David is calling on government to abide by the decisions of JLSC not to hand the AG post to Wildman. David noted that the commission made the decision based on the Constitution and for government to accuse the body of setting a dangerous precedence is showing disrespect for the institution of the country.

David, the General Secretary of NDC, charged that the arrogance of the ruling New National Party (NNP) administration of Dr. Mitchell is causing serious problems for the people of the country.

Last month, Grenadian barrister,. Anslem Clouden called for a full-scale investigation into Wildman based on certain allegation made against him.
