The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) has been called in to investigate the disappearance of a large sum of money from the Grenada Teachers Social Security and Welfare Association (GTSSWA) on Gore Street, St. George's.

Informed sources told GRENADA TODAY that fingers are pointing at a particular individual who has since left the country. According to the insider, about $80,000.00 is believed to be missing from the funds of the association.
He said that GTSSWA only heard about the missing funds after a Teller at one of the commercial banks in St. George's alerted the organisation about two major withdrawals allegedly done by the individual within a matter of days.

GRENADA TODAY was told that the individual withdrew a huge sum of money and one day later returned to the bank with another cheque to make another withdrawal. The source spoke of one of the Tellers refusing to cash the second cheque on the grounds that the second transaction was being done too quickly, resulting in the individual going to another Teller.

Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the GTSSWA, Elizabeth Peters confirmed to GRENADA TODAY Wednesday that the police have been called in to investigate irregularities within the association. She declined to be drawn into giving more details about the irregularities.

This is not the first time the police have been called in to investigate the disappearance of huge sums of monies from the Association. Over three years ago an investigation was conducted when it was discovered that monies were missing. No one was charged.
