Victoria HughesThe Grenada Broadcasting Network (GBN) has a new Managing Director in Motivational Speaker, Victoria Hughes.

Informed sources told GRENADA TODAY that Hughes took up her new position at the station earlier in the month.

GBN was managed by Trinidadian Richard Purcell who is associated with the Caribbean Communications Network (CCN), the major shareholder of the local media entity.

Although Purcell is still in the country, a source said he is no longer interested in managing the station and plans to return to his native Trinidad as soon as a replacement could be found.

The source expressed surprise over Hughes' appointment since she was tipped to take up a job with the Government Information Service (GIS). The GIS is said to be expanding its operations to include a television station and has begun testing its transmitters to commence programming.

According to the source, Hughes showed up at the GIS last month but did not work on the grounds that she had not received a written contract outlining her job description. Hughes had worked in GBN in 1999 for a short period.

The source said he expected the new station manager to make sweeping changes at the network especially with the dress code of employees. Hughes is the wife of late broadcaster, Frank Hughes and is known for her own radio programme "Today and Tomorrow" which is usually aired on GBN itself.
