Digicel has announced the winners of its "Man of the Match" and "Man of the Series" Pan-Caribbean Cricket Texting competition conducted by the mobile provider.

The winners, Rene Belfon of St. Mark's and Dexter Francis of Woburn St. George's were presented to the media on Tuesday at Digicel's Headquarters in Point Salines, St. George's.

Country Manager of Digicel Grenada, Patricia Maher told reporters that despite Grenada's inability to host cricket matches because of the damage to the National Stadium, fans from the Spice Isle showed a high level of participation in the competition, with the country submitting the third highest number of texts in the Digicel operating countries.

According to Maher, Digicel, as a sponsor of West Indies cricket, has a deep respect for the sport and its social and cultural history in the Caribbean. "We are therefore delighted that even though the country cannot host matches, our Grenadian fans still have an equal opportunity to have that kind of involvement in the cricket arena," she said.

The Digicel official indicated that customers only had to text the name of the person they believed would be named as Man of the Match and Man of the Series during the Digicel home series between South Africa and West Indies.
She said if they were accurate then they would have won a trip to Jamaica to witness the second test match against Pakistan and West Indies cricket teams.

Maher pointed out that Belfon and Francis would be part of the Digicel Party Stands for the first three days of the test match at Sabina Park. Belfon and Francis who left the country on Wednesday for Jamaica would be part of a training session with the West Indies team on Thursday.

Digicel's Marketing Executive Reece Sam disclosed that all winners will have VIP status throughout their travels and short stay in Jamaica. "Our team from Digicel Group would be on hand to take care of their every need", she added.
During their stay in Jamaica, the two Grenadians will spend five nights at the Courtleigh Hotel and will receive US$375.00 each before returning home on Monday.

Belfon and Francis who said they are great cricket fans, expressed excitement at going to witness the cricket test match and meeting the players of Team West Indies.

Belfon is a former member of the under-17 National Cricket team and presently a coach of a kiddie cricket team in St. Mark's, while Francis plays wind ball cricket.
