Prime Minister AnthonyPrime Minister Dr. Kenny Anthony of St. Lucia has presented a cheque for $148,000, on behalf of his Government and people to his Grenadian counterpart, Keith Mitchell at a brief ceremony in St. George's.

According to Dr. Anthony, the funds were donated by "ordinary St. Lucians" following the destruction caused to Grenada by Hurricane Ivan in September 2004.

Prime Minister Anthony said it is the wish of St. Lucians that the funds be used in the area of housing, as so many houses were destroyed or damaged by Ivan and many Grenadians did not have insurance.

Prime Minister Mitchell, in accepting the cheque, expressed appreciation on the part of the Government and people of Grenada, adding that Ivan has shown "the sense of commitment" to one another that exists among Caribbean countries.

The presentation took place following the conclusion of a meeting with OECS Heads of Government and World Bank President James Wolfensohn, which was held at the Caribbean Hall on the campus of the St. George's University.
