Two of Grenada's most dangerous criminals, 29 year old Aldin "Ossie" Phillip and 21 year old Elvon "Plank" Barry are expected to appear in the February Criminal Assizes in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on charges of armed robbery and illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm. According to reports reaching GRENADA TODAY, both men were jointly charged and committed sometime last year by a Vincentian Magistrate to stand trial in next month's criminal assizes. This newspaper was told the Vincentian Prosecution Department was able to satisfy a Magistrate's Court that the two Grenadians were involved in the robbery of a gas station in St. Vincent last October. After the passage of hurricane Ivan on September 7, Phillip, Barry and Lyndon Lambert alias "Police", fled to St. Vincent after members of the Special Services Unit (SSU) in Grenada, launched a massive manhunt to recapture all escapees from the richmond Hill prison. The trio were listed as most wanted criminals in the Spice Isle following a string of crimes committed on the island including the robbery and murder of an indian businessman. The run-away prisoners were caught during a two day joint sting operation by members of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Rapid Response Unit (RRU) of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) during a raid on the Questelles village. Barry was reportedly caught in a tree, and Lambert in a house with a loaded 9mm pistol. Phillip who is considered to be extremely dangerous and elusive was caught a few days later in the Layou village near the nation's capital of Kingstown. GRENADA TODAY was also told that 21 year old Lambert of Grand Bacolet, St. Andrew's was convicted by a Vincentian court for possession of an unlicensed firearm with ammunition and is presently doing jail time for that offense. |
