Telecommunications provider, Digicel Grenada signed an agreement January 11 with Advance Business Systems Inc, (ABS), of Barbados for the electronic distribution of their prepaid top-up service known as Flex-e-cards.

With the signing of this new agreement, prepaid cell phone users now have a choice on how they purchase top-up credit at selective outlets island-wide. Speaking at the ceremony in St. George's to mark the occasion and update both the local media and existing flexcard retailers about the new product and service, (ABS) President Tony Del Castilho described the new service as flawless.

Del Castilho told the gathering, that the service allows flexcard mobile users to buy credit (top-up) via Q-Point electronic terminals in addition to purchasing the traditional plastic top-up cards, at existing dealer outlets. He said over the past year the Q-Point service has been available in Barbados, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and is being utilized by a large cross section of persons.

"The major benefit of the system for merchants is they will no longer lose sales due to out of stock situations since the e-cards are downloaded to the Q-Point terminal on demand. In addition it will remove the potential losses due to card theft and the cost associated with securing the physical cards", he added.

According to the ABS executive he is delighted at the prospects of the partnership with Digicel as his company is committed to the delivery of an integrated service that will give Digicel resellers and consumers the benefit of using cutting edge electronic payment systems

Digicel's country Manager Patricia Maher who also spoke at the ceremony expressed the view that the new service will bring a new level of convenience to the company's customers in Grenada. Maher stated that Digicel is committed to bringing new technological advancements to Grenada by offering consumers greater choice and higher quality service at more competitive prices.

She noted that the company is the first mobile service provider in Grenada to deliver electronic prepaid top-up service to the consumers.

Assurances were given to potential Q-Point merchants by the main players that the help desk will provide technical support to merchants island-wide 365 days a year from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
In addition, the singing of the agreement with Digicel has resulted in the creation of new job opportunities at ABS Grenada.
