Informed sources told GRENADA TODAY that Celestine is due to take up work as Manager of the National Council for Reconstruction and Development (NCRD) which is headed by Sir Alister Mc Intyre. A source who asked not to be named said that the career diplomat would be seconded to the council by the Public Service Commission (PSC) which is the local body responsible for public officers on the island. He spoke of Celestine, a former national netball star, already agreeing to the new terms and conditions of her contract with the Mc Intyre group. However, he declined to give details of the financial package and length of duration of the contract. Celestine has reportedly been forced out of the job in New York in the midst of a heated disagreement over the ownership of a $200, 000.00 U.S bank account at Chase Bank between the ruling New National Party (NNP) and the Grenada Disaster Relief Organisation. (Click here for reference). When the fund was established after the passage of Hurricane Ivan on September 7, Celestine was one of three persons at the missions who became signatories to the account. The Consul General is said to have refused to sign documents for the money to be used by government on the basis that it belongs to the group in New York. She was soon given marching orders from the mission to return home after nearly nine years on the job. There are unconfirmed reports that while Celestine was on holiday, the newly appointed Ambassador to the United Nations, Ruth Rouse removed her name as one of the signatories to the bank account. It is believed that Rouse was acting on instructions from the government in St. George's. |
