The residents of Grand Anse Valley were treated last Tuesday with gifts from nine barrels from Boston in the United States. The barrels, containing clothing and food items, were handed out by Roslyn Morris, who spearheaded the initiative.

Morris, a Grenadian spent 36 years in the Spice Isle before she migrated to Boston. She said that she saw the need to help the people of Grenada because of the damages they suffered at the hands of Hurricane Ivan on September 7.

Morris pointed out that she is blessed with two successful children, one a Chemist and the other a Lawyer. She had been working in a hospital in the United States for over 30 years and decided to share whatever she had with the people from the country where she was born.

According to Morris, she decided to hand out the items personally, because she wanted to ensure that the people themselves receive the supplies she collected for them. The items were collected from the people of Boston.

Morris told GRENADA TODAY that she was forced to pay $80.00 at the Port Authority to search for the barrels and another $250.00 for a truck to transport the barrels from the port. She also said that she was originally charged over a thousand dollars to clear the barrels, but in the end paid $571.00 because she knew an employee at Customs.

Morris thanked Steven and Cynthia Coker, Marvin and Cheryl Innis, Michael Alban, Wayne and Brenda Osborne, David Martin, the residents of Boston whom she said were very instrumental in the barrels coming to Grenada. She also mentioned Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester of Tempe, St. George's and Mr. and Mrs. La Crete of River Road for the help she received in Grenada.

The Parliamentary Representative for St. George's South Glynis Roberts was also on hand to help in distributing items to the people of Grand Anse Valley.
