The Guyanese community in Grenada have planned a day of culture and culinary arts to raise much needed funds to assist their flood ravaged country.
Spearheading the event is Dr. Omowale Amuleru-Marshall, Professor & Chair at the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the School of Medicine St. George's University.

The event , entitled "A Grand 'GT' (Georgetown) after-Lunch Fete will take place this Sunday February 27 at the Grenada Trade Center from 12 noon to 12 midnight. According to Dr. Omowale, a full range of Guyanese cuisine will be on sale including Pepper Pot, Black Pudding, Souse, Cook-Up Rice, Curried Chicken, Roti, Channa and Chow Mien.

He disclosed that a number of local artistes such as former national monarch "Black Wizard," Road March champ General PP, Zingo, Beast Ranking Marvin and Scholar have given commitment in performing at the event as part of their contribution towards the flood ravaged country.

There will also be music by two popular DJs Black Storm and Simply Smooth as well as the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) Band. The SGU Professor told journalists that proceeds from the fund raiser will go towards the Guyana Red Cross since it is a non-governmental initiative.

He insisted that their idea is non-partisan but to provide what assistance they can get from the Grenadian people to assist the flood relief efforts in their home land through a reputable (Non Governmental Organisation) NGO. Guyana, in January was hit by the worst floods to have affected it in the last ten years resulting in a massive aid appeal which was launched by the United Nations (UN).

Government officials in Georgetown have said that Some of the top priorities were primary health care and getting children back to school. There have been at least thirty deaths since the floods relating to water bone diseases.

International donors have been asked to assist the country in building a new drainage system, to prevent future heavy rainfall having such a devastating effect.
Admission to enter the event is $10.00 and tickets are already on sale at a number of outlets and from designated individuals.
