The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) has a new home in the heart of the city. The new location is downtown St. George's in the building which formerly housed British American Insurance on the corner of Halifax and HillsBorough streets in St. George's.

The new CID home is also opposite the National Commercial Bank (NCB) and the popular Foodland Supermarket. The relocation was forced on the department after its main office on Grand Etang road was badly damaged by the passage of Hurricane Ivan on September 7.

On Tuesday afternoon, CID officers were seen transporting files, documents, safes and other items to their new office. GRENADA TODAY understands that the CID building lost electrical power during the hurricane and officers were forced to work in darkness, and at times with the use of candles.

A few months later electrical power was restored to the building but it had to be disconnected after it was felt that the structure was unsafe for electrical power.

The information in our possession is that despite the relocation, all of the CID telephone numbers used by the public will remain the same.
A number of police stations including the Central Police station on the Carenage, Victoria Police Station, as well as Police Headquarters and South St. George Police station at Morne Rouge, suffered some degree of destruction during the hurricane.
