The T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) and the Grenada Boys Secondary School (GBSS) are benefiting from the Digicel Post-Ivan Restoration Fund.

Digicel is undertaking to rebuild the GBSS Auditorium and to create a new Information Technology Centre for TAMCC. The ground breaking ceremony for the two projects was held on Wednesday on the grounds of GBSS as the school celebrated GBSS Day.

Country Manager Patricia Maher who spoke at the function said that DIGICEL is very proud "to know that our Post Ivan Restoration fund is being put to good use". "Education is the key to any country's success, and we are very happy to know that we are playing our part, to restore and to improve the education facilities in Grenada, especially following the hurricane and the ravages of that hurricane", she said.

Maher noted that the contribution from DIGICEL is the single largest contribution from any private sector company in Grenada. The telecommunications operator has donated $1 million for the construction of both facilities. The TAMCC IT Center will cost $270,000, while the refurbishment of the GBSS Auditorium will cost $685,000.

Minister Claris Modeste-Curwen praised Digicel for its promptness in responding in such a tangible way to the young people of Grenada. "A friend in need is a friend indeed", she added. The Works Minister pointed out that the two projects are further proof that the liberation of the telecommunication sector is a positive development for Grenada".
