The father of 19-Year old Stacy-Ann Charles of Belle Vue Lands, St. David who was brutally chopped on Wednesday has openly expressed disgust over what should have never happened.

Prison Officer, Finbar Charles, was very angry when he related to the GRENADA TODAY newspaper the condition of his daughter who was rushed to the St. George’s General hospital on Wednesday for urgent surgery.

“She’s in bad condition”, said Charles, dressed in his official uniform and surrounded by family members.

The very emotional father placed the blame at the feet of officers attached to the St. David’s Police Station of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) whom he felt if they had done their job the incident would not have happened.

He said that the Magistrate for the court in the area had issued instructions to the police for a bench warrant to be executed on the alleged perpetrator but the Police failed to do so.

Police have a suspect in mind and are said to be on the lookout for the man who is a neighbour of the injured college student.

According to Charles, the suspect had on many occasions threatened his family and indicated publicly that he will kill one of them.

This sentiment was also voiced by surrounding neighbours who stated that they heard him saying so for a long time.

Charles said that he made numerous reports to the police about the suspect but they have never shown any serious interest in apprehending him, even after the assailant damaged their property.

He spoke of the Police looking for the suspect for over four months but had serious doubts about them wanting to catch the man.

Charles pointed out that on numerous occasions the wanted man was seen walking all over the neighbourhood, unlike someone who is wanted by the police.

“They didn’t want the man, now they looking for the man after the damage done”, he said.

The prison officer stated that he intends to take up the matter with the Commissioner of Police very seriously in an effort to get satisfaction for his daughter.

Meanwhile, Stacy-Ann who is a second year student at the T.A. Marryshow Community College is said to be in stable condition at the hospital.

The teenager reportedly received two major chops, one to the shoulder and another on her hand among other injuries at the hands of her assailant. Speculation is rife that she could lose the damaged hand.

According to Charles, who was at his job when he received the sad news, it is not clear what exactly led up to this incident but it resulted in his daughter struggling with the perpetrator who at the time was allegedly armed with a cutlass.

She was overpowered and at the end was chopped. Charles said that at the time of the incident his daughter was home alone. Her mother, Gemma Charles was too emotional to comment on the incident.

The latest information received on Thursday from Charles was that his daughter had a 50% chance of surviving. He said that her hand was cut off by the Doctors yesterday in an effort to save her.

Immediately after the incident, the alleged perpetrator fled the scene and up to press time was still on the run.

Police investigations are continuing into the matter.
