A former employee of La Source Resort has accused the management there of refusing to pay he and other dissatisfied workers their back pay and salaries due in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan. Dexter Charles who lives in the parish of St. George’s entered the office of the GRENADA TODAY to vent his frustration with the management of the Resort. He said that that after the passage of Ivan in September 2004, all employees at La Source Hotel lost their jobs. According to Charles, the problem as it now stands is that they have not received one penny from the hotel for their years of service. He referred to a saying from old people that has seemingly befallen them: “While the grass is growing the horse is starving.” “How long will we sit and have nothing to hold onto? Do we have to wait for 2007? Who knows - we might die by that time.” Charles said that he has spoken to his other colleagues who also complain that they are in dire need of their money from La Source. He claimed that many of the ex-workers have not been able to repair their damaged homes as a result of Ivan and many are still living with tarpaulins on top of their roofs. Charles said he had been employed at the Resort for 11 years as a Maintenance Worker. He was also the Shop Steward for employees at the Resort which is represented by the Technical and Allied Workers Union (TAWU). October is the targeted date for the re-opening of the Resort which is presently under renovation.
