By Max Sterling Christmas 2005 has come and gone and what a more relaxing and enjoyable season it has been when compared with last year's. That said, it is still not as good as pre-Ivan and pre-Keith Mitchell Christmases where the reason for the season was more present with us. The sum total of our experiences over the last ten years must be taken into consideration when reviewing our progress as a people. Yes, Grenada appears to look fine with the many physical changes in both our interior and coastline but what is unfortunate is the fact that all those so-called developments are shrouded in CORRUPTION (in capitals). Over the last ten years in particular many of our people (our greatest asset) have deteriorated to the point where morals and ethics are no longer important in everyday dealings. For the most part, we now know the price of everything and the value of nothing - thanks to the reckless management style of Keith Mitchell and his gang. We have to be thankful that many of us were able to eat and drink and have a great time for this Christmas season in spite of our insufficiencies (mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically and otherwise). The genuine sharing and caring spirit in many of our people at home and abroad who helped to ease our burdens during this period of sharing must not go unnoticed. As we approach the New Year, turmoil is on the horizons. The continued attacks on Hon. Peter David and his Canadian Citizenship could prove to be bedrock of the total demise of the Mitchell administration. People are more interested to learn of the status of Keith Mitchell himself, Spaceman, Mark Isaac, Oliver Archibald during their political life rather than Peter David's which qualifies him to be more than in Parliament. In fact, he is not a known rapist, t'ief, scoundrel and does not ever resemble "Sobies in a Suit" when he is dressed, nor can he be seen in the company of crooks - local, regional or international. As I have already established in one of my previous columns the only thing Peter David has to be ashamed of is his association with the revolution. And if that is really something to be ashamed of then most, if not all of the anti-Gairy people in Grenada - starting with the same Keith Mitchell who ran against Gairy for the GNP in 1972 ought to be ashamed of that too. Let us be reminded that “Little Black” was willing to be part of the revolution as Ambassador to the OAS in Washington and was turned down but invited to come home to be part of the Ministry of Education since the hierarchy of the Revolution did not trust him enough to grant him such a job. This is one of the reasons why he is so negative towards the person who received the job as Grenada's Ambassador to the OAS under the Revolution. As a people we ought to insist on the same Keith Mitchell declaring the additional citizenship he held while an elected Member of our Parliament during the entire period 1984 to the present. I am sure we may find that the additional country he might have been a citizen of other than Grenada was definitely not a member of the Commonwealth. His mascot - the Wild One - seems to have really come to Grenada to restore Grenada to the hands of Grenadians, indeed! When people are so intent on throwing down others, they tend to lose sight of "what goes around comes around". I was always confident that "Little Black's...." wildman would have been the death of him. The second area of contention to help complete the turmoil which looms large on the Grenadian horizons, relates to the 5% Reconstruction Levy which the entire working community (except for the few corrupt cronies) are up in arms with. I am glad to hear that the Minister of Finance is showing good faith in deliberations with interest groups. I have already told each elected member of Parliament on the NNP side that Keith Mitchell has nothing on any of them since without them he is nothing. This six vote majority his party holds does not give him the right to behave in any manner similar to that when he had all the seats. Boatswain should pull rank on him and show him how opposed he is to contributing to any turmoil in Grenada. I understand that whereas "Little Black...." is hell bent on collecting the 5% from every worker in Grenada, Boatswain is opposed to that kind of high-handed thinking - as he sees it as a recipe for disaster. What I believe "Little Black...." does not realize is that people do not trust him at all with their money. He probably cannot reconcile this but it is a fact that after he has accumulated so many nastiness over his head during the last ten years, there is no way Grenadians would allow him to manage their money, which they do not mind giving - as long as he has nothing to do with its management. If he had any decency, he would have resigned in attempt to salvage what's left (if anything) of his reputation. I say reputation since without character that's all a person like him could have. I understand that before Boatswain stepped in hard to salvage the situation, he (Little Black....") was intent on applying the law passed to collect this levy by hook or crook. The plan was to even force employers to pay it, if workers would not pay. Boatswain must appreciate that "Little Black...." cannot afford to fire any one of them since he is holding on to power by a loose piece of thread. He cannot do what he did when Fletcher resigned and win any future election in Grenada. He knows that and he also knows that Tilly and the same RMC guys in the NDC have the wherewithal to investigate (not inquire) his tenure in office and jail him if that is what is prescribed by any likely criminal charges brought against him which he may not be able to defend. You see how disgraced Panday is in Trinidad! Similar fate awaits "Little Black...." - and he knows it. I can afford to celebrate in advance - because I can hear the jail door banging very soon for all "Little Black...." and his guilty disciples, pot hounds and mongrels. The apparently "Never-ending Nastiness in Progress (NNP) over the last ten years is about to end. Let me take this opportunity to wish everyone - especially my most avid readers - a Happy New Year. I wish you assert yourselves and become ever vigilant so as to prevent the further abuses of the Mitchell administration and their inferior "lumpen" affiliates. I can hear the jail door banging loudly - and I thank God for it - all in the fullness of time!
