St. George’s businessman Joseph Ross has been left poorer after a group of robbers struck at his Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet at Grands Anse, St. George’s on Friday night.

The intruders made their way into the building through the roof by removing a sheet of galvanise on top of the building. Informed sources told GRENADA TODAY that the robbers forced their way into a safety box and removed thousands of dollars.

According to a well-placed source, the police at the nearby South St. George Police Station were called in to investigate the robbery at the KFC outlet, one of three outlets on the island.

He said the lawmen took about three hours to reach the building which is located less than 300 yards away from the station. The police reportedly gave as their excuse for their late arrival the fact that a number of other crimes had also attracted their attention the same night in the south of the island.

The south station also had to wait for forensic experts from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) in St. George’s to arrive on the scene to try and obtain fingerprints to try and identify the intruders. The police reportedly recovered little or no fingerprints from inside the building.

The lawmen suspect that the intruders used gloves and a form of grease in order to hide their fingerprints.

The source said that the lawmen are working on the theory that the robbery at the KFC outlet could have been committed by locals working alongside some very skilled foreigners.
