Students from six pre-primary and primary schools on the island were given early christmas toys as part of the annual Holiday Gift Project organised by the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism.

The toys were handed out Monday at the Tanteen Tennis Court by Santa Claus with help from crew members of Sun Princess Cruises.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Culture Adrian Hayes revealed that it is the tenth year that the cruise line has conducted the project in the Spice Isle and that more than 200 children received toys from Santa this time around.

Minister of Tourism Brenda Hood indicated that the FCCA saw the need to conduct this project because it wanted to give back something to the destination.

She said the association does not conduct this project only in Grenada, but to every country in the Caribbean where its cruise liners travel.

According to Minister Hood, the Ministry decided to select students from schools in St.George’s this year to get toys from the project.

The schools that benefitted were St.George’s Anglican Junior School, St. George’s SDA, Green Street Pre-Primary, J.W Fletcher, River Road Pre-Primary, St. George’s Methodist Primary and St. John’s Pre-Primary School.

Coordinator and Supervisor on Sun Princess Cruise, Linda Deanne who took part in the ceremony said that the Florida outfit is very happy to donate toys to children in Grenada.

She added that the FCCA, a trade association representing 13 member lines operating almost 100 vessels in Florida, the Caribbean and Mexican waters, will always continue to give back to its destinations.
