British housewife Jane Cartwright has been remanded to the Richmond Hill prison after police charged her possession and trafficking in cocaine.

She was nabbed at the Point Salines International Airport (PSIA) when law enforcement officials conducted a series of searches on her luggage and body as she attempted to board a flight for London.

Police sources told GRENADA TODAY that two cylinder shaped plastic packages were removed from the vagina of Cartwright, a housewife with three children. The seized packages weighed 8 ozs.

The suspect was taken to the St. George's General Hospital for an examination and x-rays revealed there were foreign bodies in her intestine. She was admitted and monitored, and later given enema to pass the foreign bodies which came to a total of 130 pellets containing cocaine.

A police official said that including the two packages that were removed from the woman's vagina that in all a total of 2 lbs, 6 ozs of cocaine were recovered as part of the operation. Cartwright has secured the services of Attorney-at-law, Peter David to represent her in court.

She made her first appearance before the Magistrate Court on November 23 and was remanded to prison until December 12. Meanwhile, two Jamaican nationals Andrew Gumbs and Eric Channer have been charged by police with drugg offences.

Gumbs was charged with possession of cocaine and intent to supply while Channer was charged with suspicion of trafficking drugs and attempting to export illegal drugs. Police are also said to be looking for a third Jamaican national Calbert Nelson who was also charged with his colleagues but managed to escape custody on November 23.
