The Grenada Red Cross Society notes with concern the circulation of a recent leaflet alleging that Grenada Red Cross, Director General, was involved in so-called smuggling of items in collaboration with a prominent member of an existing political party during the Hurricane Ivan Operation. At no point during the operation, did the Red Cross receive any goods in the name of any individual of any of the political parties. The Red Cross is a humanitarian organisation without political, religious or racial affiliation when it comes to delivering its mandate which is to assist the vulnerable (sick and suffering). The Grenada Red Cross Society calls upon any individual or organisation who may have a political, personal or other agenda to refrain from tarnishing the name of Grenada Red Cross and its employees, at a time when as a humanitarian organisation, the society has made and continue to make its remarkable contribution in the recovery and rehabilitation process of rebuilding our nation. Grenada Red Cross Society calls upon such individuals to desist from the attacks on our noble organisation and individuals who give devotedly of their time and effort to improving the lives of the vulnerable in our hurricane ravaged island.
