Grand Anse resident Victor Gooding lost his life at around 1.15 a.m. Sunday morning when a car driven by Lyndon Noel of Mardi Gras, St. George's slammed into him. Gooding, who is reported to be in his mid-thirties was hit by a green Toyota registration # PF 55 in the area outside of the Grand Beach Hotel in the south of the island.

Eyewitnesses spoke of hearing tires screeching and then observed a green car heading in a southern direction, followed by loud impact. The car is also reported to have smashed into a wall.

GRENADA TODAY understands that the deceased was returning to his friends after he went to purchase barbecue chicken close to the Drug Mart area. A police official told this newspaper that the body of the deceased especially his feet and middle section was badly smashed up. Officers of the South St. George Police Station were called to the scene while motorists and passersby were engaged in pulling the three occupants including the driver out of the car in order to rush them to the General Hospital in St George's.

The police official said that although the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has been notified about the deadly incident, no charges have yet being laid. He stated that statements have not yet been taken from the driver of the car, as well as the other two occupants in the smashed up car because they are still in a serious condition.

Meanwhile, the Grenada Motoring Club has sought to distance itself from reports that the driver of the car involved in the accident was connected to the Thunder Drags, a race that was held at the old Pearls airstrip in St. Andrew's over the weekend. "The driver and car involved in the accident is not in anyway, a member of the Grenada Motoring Club", said the association in a release issued to the local media. Police have said that six persons have lost their lives in road accidents this year in Grenada.
