The General Hospital in St. George's is the recipient of a brand new ambulance thanks to the Grenadians and Friends Association of Antigua and Barbuda. The ambulance was handed over to Minister of Health, Ann David-Antoine by President of the Association Cosmos Marcelle at the hospital last Friday.

Director of Hospital Services, Steven Thomas noted that the gift was timely since staffers at the hospital have been inquiring about more ambulances for the medical facility. He stated that the vehicle will help to cut down on the response time for reports of medical emergencies in the country.

According to the Health Minister, the new ambulance will also help to provide quality service to the people of Grenada and build the confidence of the public in the hospital. Minister David-Antoine thanked the overseas association for what she called "a wonderful gift." In response, Marcelle said that the initiative came about when the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Baldwin Spencer, on hearing about the devastation of Grenada by Hurricane Ivan last September, he called members of the Association to a meeting and suggested that an account be open in the name of the Grenada Relief Fund.

He said the fund grew to the point where it was able to afford the association an opportunity to send relief stuff to Grenada after Ivan. Marcelle pointed out that the money to buy the ambulance, four wheelchairs and other medical supplies that were donated to the General; Hospital was raised through fund-raising activities.

He indicated that the people of Antigua responded rather positively to activities put on by the association to help Grenada, because of the "great bond" existing between the two countries. Grenadians and Friends Association of Antigua and Barbuda consists of Grenadians living in Antigua.
