Sherman GeorgePolice are expected to bring a charge of car theft against a Trinidad youngster who claims to have been born of Grenadian parentage.

Sherman George who gave his address as Jean Anglais, St. George's was taken into police custody late Tuesday when he was nabbed in Mt. Gay area near to the island's main mental hospital. George is the main suspect in the theft of a rental vehicle on Saturday night in the Grand Anse area that belonged to Nedd's Rental Service of Tempe, St. George's.

Informed sources told GRENADA TODAY that the suspect was spotted in the River Road area driving the vehicle by associates of Nedd who chased after him. George who was driving the "stolen vehicle" drove off the main road and quickly headed into Mt. Gay on the road leading to the mental hospital.

When he was cornered, George jumped out of the vehicle and started to flee the area by foot. The search party gave chase and soon apprehended him. The police were immediately called in and Sergeant Raymond "Beast" Matthew who heads the Rapid Response Unit of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) was quickly on the scene.Sgt. Matthew took control and pinned the suspect onto the ground until members of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in St. George's arrived in the Mt. Gay area.

According to a police official, the lawmen had searched many parts of the country to find the vehicle after the owners reported it missing. An employee of Nedd's rental company told GRENADA TODAY that they had received many reports of the missing vehicle being sighted in different parts of the country but they were never able to catch up with the "car thief".

The original number plate on the vehicle was PP 693 but the "car thief" had changed it to P789. Police sources confirm that they are very familiar with the suspect who is a regular customer at CID in connection with a number of offences in the past. George is said to have entered Grenada from Trinidad and Tobago in July 2003.
