Police in Grenada are considering charges against a homeless woman they believe was responsible for accidentally setting a fire on Herbert Blaize, Street in St. George's on the weekend.

A police source told this newspaper that there is enough evidence to suggest that the fire started when a mattress the woman appeared to be lying on was lit by a burnt cigarette.

Eyewitnesses spoke of seeing the woman who usually hangs around the town in a drunken state fleeing from the scene. The fire destroyed an abandoned wooden structure where the woman was known to be taking shelter.

It also partly destroyed the law Office of Sydney Jacobs, the dwelling house and business place of Richard Worth and Lera Mc Kenzie. This is the fourth fire in the St. George's area for the year.

In April the Grenada Boys Secondary School (GBSS) was partial brunt and another fire two months ago completely gutted the island's oldest secondary school for boys. Another fire last month burnt down most of Westmorland Junior school.
