Supermarket Chain operator, Peter Andall is to re-open two of his supermarkets within the next few weeks. Informed sources told GRENADA TODAY that Andall & Associates are planning to re-open the supermarket at Springs early next month and the Box Shop in Grenville, St. Andrew's in June. Andall was forced to close most of his businesses after looters ransacked his stores following the passage of Hurricane Ivan last September.

The businessman lost thousands of dollars in the face of a breakdown of law and order in the country. According to a well-placed source, the company will not be re-opening the supermarkets at River Road in St. George's and Lower Depradine Street in Gouyave, St. John's since the buildings have been taken up by new tenants. A St. George's food caterer and small hotel operator is said to have secured the premises once occupied by Andall & Associates at River Road for the opening of a new supermarket and food take-away service.

The premises once occupied by Andall at Gouyave has been rented out to a company operating in St. John's that is involved in the ice cream business. The new tenants are also said to be planning to open a supermarket at that location.

The source said that Andall's decision to re-open some of the supermarkets is not indicative of his confidence in the security of the State but due to his love for business challenges. "His (Andall) whole life and dream was to establish a chain of supermarkets throughout Grenada that could serve the people, not only in better prices but quality products", he remarked.

Like some of the leading business operators in the country, Andall was extremely critical of the failure of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) to arrest the widespread looting in the aftermath of Ivan. The businessman is also known to have alleged that some police officers might have taken part in the looting of one of his businesses in the town of Grenville. Andall & Associates have been putting out media advertisements asking previous employees of the company interesting of employment to come in for interviews.
