The Government of Grenada wishes to express its condolences to the Catholic and entire religious community following the passing of Pope John Paul II.

Prime Minister, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell has called Pope John Paul a man of God whose faith was as strong as his commitment to human causes. Dr. Mitchell described him as a visionary leader who stood for peace and goodwill between all men regardless of religious or political persuasion.

Prime Minister Mitchell noted that the Pope was a leader who tried to make the world a better place and who was committed to improving understanding and respect between all human beings. Prime Minister Mitchell met with the Pope in 1998 and reflected on how impressed he was with the pontiff at that meeting.
