What begun as a promising business trip to Beasejour in St. George's on Monday afternoon ended in tragedy when a St. David's businessman lost his life allegedly by drowning in the Beasejour river.

Reports are that 43 years old Wayne Pierre of La Femme in St. David's, perished in several feet of water as he was trapped by the steering wheel of a truck which he had just purchased.

This newspaper learnt that the victim left St. David's with some friends to buy the Blue Mitsubishi pick-up truck registration number T7777. Shortly after the deal was completed, Pierre began preparations to tow the vehicle to St. David's when the tragedy occurred.

There are reports that as the men began towing the truck from the back, the cable which was used in the process collapsed, resulting in the vehicle descending into the nearby river. Some villagers indicated that although attempts were made to offer assistance to Pierre who was sitting behind the wheel, the dirty water hampered their efforts.

About an hour after the accident, the vehicle was removed from the river with the assistance of villagers and the Police. A medical doctor visited the scene and pronounced Pierre dead after conducting an examination of the body.
