Women in Grenada living with breast cancer have been given a little hope as the Pink Ribbon Society Inc. received a cheque from Buddy Check 12, a local breast cancer organisation. The cheque worth
over $10,000.00 was handed over to Pink Ribbon Society last Thursday
at the Child Welfare Authority on St. John's Street. President of the Society, Mary John said that the amount of women with breast cancer in Grenada is quite alarming, with a number of persons in their 20s and 30s being diagnosis with the disease. John pointed out that the disease, which is an uncontrolled growth of breast cells, is much more aggressive in young people and is no-longer regarded as a disease for only older people. She disclosed that some of the money received has been earmarked to provide treatment for a young woman with the disease. President of Bubby
Check 12, Francis Nelson stated that the money donated was collected
from fund raising activities held by the organisation, and from donations
made by people in some communities. |
