The Grenada National Council of the Disabled (GNCD) was the recipient of several prosthetic parts from the St. Marteen Clinic Special Department of Holland in the Netherlands.

Dutch residents Charles and Lily Beulink presented legs, arms, feet as well as half legs to Co-ordinator of the GNCD Hillary Gabriel at a ceremony held at the Council's office on Scott Street on Tuesday.

Gabriel, along with other members of the GNCD Board of Directors also used the occasion to present school books to students with disabilities as well as children whose parents are disabled. Speaking at the ceremony Lily Beulink explained as to how they come by the prosthetic parts.

She pointed out that both herself and her husband who have been residing here for the past six years noticed there are quite a number of one legged people in the country.

Beulink said they then decided to contact the Clinic in which a request was made for the prosthetic items that are left over and are thrown away be sent to Grenada where they will be put to use by persons with disabilities.

She was high in praise for the assistance given by Van Doorn Pac Shipping of Holland who was responsible for bringing the items into the country. GNCD Co-ordiantor Hillary Gabriel in taking receipt of the parts described the presentation ceremony as timely.

She said that they will be used to outfit persons with disabilities at the GNCD's Clinic in November which will be held in conjunction with the St. George's University School of Medicine (SGUSOM). Gabriel is inviting persons who will be needing those parts to come in or call the Council's office so that they can be properly fitted.

Meanwhile seven children were recipients of books from the Council during Tuesday's ceremony. They were Sherwin Paul, Maydon Boca, Naudia Hazzard, Levon Pope, Louis Mac Donald and Jamal Phillip.

Gabriel encouraged the recipients to take good care of the books so that other children who are enrolled in the programme will benefit. Funds to purchase the books came for a luncheon hosted by the Council earlier in the year.
