The main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) party has started a series of meeting with stakeholders in the country to put forward a case for the removal from office of the New National Party (NNP) regime of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell.

A party official told GRENADA TODAY that high-level delegations from the congress will be meeting with business leaders, trade unions, media managers, the clergy, Non-governmental organisations (NGO's) and others to press forward with its case against the Mitchell government.

The move comes against the backdrop of the latest scandal to surface in the country against the island's controversial Prime Minister. It involves allegations of a questionable transfer of funds allegedly in a briefcase that took place in Switzerland in 2000 involving a suspected fraudster from Germany.

The NDC held a public meeting in Grenville Car Park on Sunday night to seek support for a petition to be used as the mandate to embark on a series of measures aimed at toppling the Mitchell government. Following is the full text of the resolution: RESOLUTION CALLING FOR THE RESIGNATION OF THE NNP ADMINISTRATION WHEREAS: 1. Our country is founded upon principles that acknowledge the supremacy of God and man's duty toward his fellow man; 2. Our country is founded upon the principles of Parliamentary Democracy; 3.

The practices of Parliamentary Democracy embody certain fundamental principles, standards and values that provide the foundation for peace, stability, good governance and economic and social progress requiring:

*Respect for the Rule of law *Accountability in Government

*Transparency in Government transactions

*Selfless service by those who present themselves to serve

*Restraint from greed and the personal accumulation of wealth by virtue of public office and at the peoples expense of the citizens

*Respect for the media, freedom of information and the right to know;

*Restraint from the use of force, threats, intimidation and denial of economic opportunity against political opponents

4. Over the past 10 years the people of Grenada have been subjected to the worse kinds of corrupt practices and public embarrassment at the hands of the ruling administration;

5. Over the past 10 years, there have been a number of grave allegations leveled against the NNP Government for which no adequate answers and explanations have been provided including:

* Granting of offshore banking licenses to known crooks and criminals contrary to the Offshore banking laws of Grenada;

* The grant and sale of Grenada's passports to questionable characters;

* Guaranteeing massive loans to shady individuals with suspect reputations;

* Using state resources to support the greed and appetite of family and friends;

* giving away the resources of Grenada to suspect individuals, including RSM Inc. and Inter continental;

* Handing over to family members the dividends of Cable & Wireless to which the people of Grenada are entitled, contrary to the Grenada Constitution.

* The acceptance of $500,000.00 US in a briefcase from a German fraudster in exchange for a diplomatic posting.

6. In the recent General Elections, the people of Grenada openly demonstrated their resolve to no longer tolerate or condone a culture of dictatorship, arrogance, corruption, and greed by voting in the majority against the ruling NNP administration.

7. Notwithstanding that the majority of voters did not vote for Mitchell and his shameless NNP, they continue to display the same level of arrogance and greed for which the NNP has become notorious;

8. The people of Grenada are no longer prepared to submit themselves to the shame, embarrassment, humiliation and deprivation brought upon them by this NNP Government lead by Dr. The Hon. Keith C. Mitchell ; Be it resolved that:

1. The People of Grenada vigourously pursue all available constitutional and legal measures to bring about a removal of the ruling NNP from Government.

2. The widest possible consultations be immediately held with all national stakeholders, including other Opposition political Parties, The Chamber of Commerce, the Trades Union Council, Conference of Churches- including the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies, The Grenada Bar Association, non-Governmental Organizations, The National Bus drivers Association and the National Traffickers Association and other such organisations of the people;

3. That mass action be taken to force the immediate sitting of Parliament to discuss these latest grave developments.
