Grenada Cablevision Limited has come to the assistance of a local calypsonian and an institution for young people on the island.

On Monday, Sales & Marketing Manager Gail Purcell presented a cheque worth $2000.00 to Lloyd Panchoo known in the entertainment world as Mr. X to assist him in recording his music for this year's carnival celebrations. In taking receipt of the cheque, Panchoo disclosed that the money will go towards assisting him in recording his music that is scheduled to come out on June 30.

The calypsonian told GRENADA TODAY that the album will be jointly recorded in collaboration with Adrian Thomas known in the entertainment world as "Persuader" and Edison Francis "Teacher Eddy".

Panchoo is known to be the voice on the Grenada Cablevision advertisement for a number of years. The other cheque that was presented went to Programme for Adolescent Mothers (PAM) was worth $750.00 US.

In making the presentations Purcell said that the funds given to the institution were made possible through the generosity of the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association (CCTA).

She said that PAM was chosen as a grant recipient because of the service and assistance it provides to the community. Administrative Assistant for PAM Joylynn Charles thanked Cablevision for the donation.

She said that it will go towards assisting the institution in launching its cosmetology programme which is expected to start in September. The CCTA's Community Charities Programme which started more than a decade ago, has awarded over $125.000 to Caribbean charities.

Formed in 1983, the CCTA represents cable and telecommunications providers throughout the Caribbean, as well as the programmers, software and hardware suppliers that support them. Companies that are members of the CCTA include Bermuda Cablevision, Cable Company of Trinidad and Tobago, Centennial Cable TV of Puerto Rico, Grenada Cablevision, Innovative Cable TV St. Croix, Innovative Cable TV St. Thomas-St. John's, Liberty Cablevision of Puerto Rico, St. Marteen Cable TV, SAT Telecommunications Association of Dominica, The Cable of St. Kitts and T.V Distribution System of Curacao.
