There were no major changes in the top positions on the executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the conclusion of the party's16th Annual Convention at the Seamoon Cultural Center in St. Andrew's last Sunday. Political Leader Tillman Thomas along with Deputy George Prime, party Chairman Colin La. Borie as well as Deputy Chairman Ferron Lowe were re-elected unopposed. Also retaining their posts were the party's General Secretary Peter David, Public Relations Officer (PRO) Nazim Burke, his Assistant Ann Peters as well as Treasurer Dr. David Lambert. NDC held its Convention
last Sunday under the theme "Building National Consensus on our
Mission for Change". Most of the persons holding top positions on the executive are members of the Upper and Lower Houses in Parliament. Thomas won the St. Patrick's -East seat, Burke St. George's North-East, David Town of St. George while Prime is representing the party in the Senate. The party also announced the names of three of its Assistant General Secretaries. One is Glen Noel the NDC former Labour Relations Officer responsible for the Eastern division, the other is Activist Yvonne James for the parishes of St. David's and St. George's while David Baptiste is representing the Western division. The new Labour Relations Officer is Flavian Antoine, while the party's Recording Secretary is Roselyn Spencer who replaces Marva Victor. She did not contest her post since party officials say Victor wanted to focus more of her time to working with the women's arm of the Congress party. Spencer's assistant
is Parliamentary Representative for the constituency of St. George's
South Glynis Roberts. Women's Co-ordinator is Bernadette Guy while Senator
Arley Gill was re-elected unopposed as the Youth Officer. He said however that the party must continue to organise and to push its political work such as the resumption of its house to house activities. Thomas told supporters that they must get involved in community projects as well as to continue their indoor activities where they will continue to meet and to hear people's concerns. He reminded supporters of the need to be activists at all time for the Congress party so that they can defend their organisation on the street corners. According to the NDC's political leader, supporters must dominate the call in programmes on the radio stations to defend untrue statements which are being made from time to time about the party. |
