Ten lucky secondary school students are expected to receive first class computer training later this year from one of the leading manufactures of personal computers in Grenada, Nutmeg PC.

The announcement was made by the President of the Communal Corporative Credit Union (CCCU), Lydia Courtney during the recent launching of the "Communal Pentium 4 Computer Loan" scheme.

Courtney said that the students will be selected from the schools currently being visited by her company to launch the Communal's Education Savings Plan.

According to the credit union official, those students whose parents are not members of the orgnasiation can ask their parents to become members in order for them to qualify for the programme.

CCCU has already visited and launched the Education Savings Plan at the Anglican High School, and St. Joseph's Convent, St. George's. Officials will visit the Happy Hill Secondary School in the coming week.

Courtney said that teachers who are involved in information technology will also have an opportunity to enhance their literacy skills and become power users through the programme. CCCU's General Manager, Brian Campbell said the ten student who will be benefiting from the free computer training programme do not necessarily have to be children of members of the credit union.

Campbell pointed out that the offer was being made with a open mind and that children in general can benefit since it was Nutmeg PC's decision to offer the opportunities on a free basis to local students.

He described the Nutmeg PC initiative as a goodwill gesture which will benefit Grenadian students throughout the entire country. He also said that the computer loan scheme should be seen as a major investment in the lives of members and their children.

The CCCU initiative is designed to improve the lives of its members and potential members by equipping them with the necessary skills to perform in this rapidly changing technological age.
